Speaker: Violaine Ponsin, UQAM

Summary: What are the processes responsible for the degradation of pesticides in the environment? Is the remediation technique applied to a contaminated site effective in removing targeted contaminants? The species-specific isotopic composition (or Compound-Specific Isotope Analysis) has great potential for identifying and quantifying the transformation processes of the contaminants studied, whether they are contaminants of industrial origin (hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, etc.) or micropollutants ( herbicides). My research aims to understand the biological and chemical processes responsible for the transfer and transformation of various organic contaminants after their release into the environment. I develop methods for measuring stable isotopes (for example carbon, hydrogen or even chlorine) and apply them on different scales, from laboratory to field study.

The conference is open to everyone. You can attend on site, at local PK-6120, UQAM, Montreal, or by online webinar by subscribing to the mailing list: rqes.coord@gmail.com
