Restriction on the use of drinking water in Quebec City

06 September 2021

Alain Mailhot, professor-researcher at the National Institute for Scientific Research, interviewed on the program "C'est encore mieux l'après-midi" on the management of drinking water.

The decrease in raw water reserves combined with the strong heat felt during the month of August forced the City of Quebec to put in place restrictions on the consumption of drinking water. Indeed, during the interview on August 24 on the program "C'est encore mieux l'après-midi" with Alain Mailhot, professor-researcher at the National Institute for Scientific Research, it was reported that only 10% of the precipitation normally expected for August was recorded this year.

The professor-researcher also mentions during the interview that it is only a preventive alert from the city although it is true that the water consumption of the province can be reduced especially by considering the possible impact of climate change. The city, for its part, continues to maintain its network and adapts it to future forecasts. More » (in French)
