Energy from wastewater

06 October 2021

A study by Eawag has shown that it would be relevant to recover energy from wastewater, for example from hot shower water.

The thermal energy of water during a shower, for example, is unfortunately not used and partly dissipated during its entire flow and treatment. It could be interesting to recover this heat at the source in the households to use this produced energy. The study also helped to dispel fears that this form of heat exploitation could have a negative impact on wastewater treatment plants. Operation close to the source even reduces subsequent energy loss in the sewage system.
