CentrEau Hebd'eau | Treatment and management of water contaminated by PFAS

41st webinar of the Hebd'Eau series entitled "Treatment and management of water contaminated by perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)"

Speaker: Prof. Patrick Drogui, INRS-ETE, regular member of CentrEau

Language : French, with slide show in English

Summary: The issues surrounding perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are very complex chemicals. PFAS were developed over 50 years ago and are now used in a wide range of products and processes (cookware, paints, cosmetics, fire fighting foams, cleaning products, electronics, building materials, non-stick coatings, clothing, packaging, etc.) due to their resistance to oil, heat and water. PFAS have since been found to have harmful effects on the environment and human health. A multidisciplinary research team led by Prof. Patrick Drogui of INRS (including Prof. Ali El Khakani, INRS, and Prof. Sébastien Sauvé, UMontréal) is working to use nanomaterials to develop advanced electro-catalytic processes to decontaminate waters containing harmful chemicals, such as PFAS.

New series of weekly CentrEau webinars "all about water management". These short 20-minute presentations will be offered live every Thursday at 1 p.m. followed by a short discussion period. CentrEau professors and researchers, as well as guest speakers, will present their research work and its importance in a semi-popularized manner. Watch the previous webinars on our YouTube Channel.
