CentrEau Hebd'Eau | E-NUNDATION, a web platform for operational flood management

32st webinar of the series in the Hebd'Eau series titled « E-NUNDATION, a web platform for operational flood management ».

Speaker : Hachem Agili, CEO of Geosapiens

Language: French, with slides in French

Summary: Over the last decade, Quebec has experienced multiple floods with economic losses estimated in hundreds of millions of dollars. Currently, flood management is mainly based on hydrological forecasts and on the mapping of flood-prone areas associated with a few return periods (e.g. 2, 20 and 100 years) or with historical events. This information available to crisis managers is poorly suited to risk management as it does not provide an accurate and up-to-date assessment of the risk or identification of vulnerable elements and their exposure levels.

E-NUNDATION is an innovative solution for flood risk analysis and management at the property level. Being the result of several years of research at INRS, this solution is commercialized by Geosapiens to help public and private organizations as well as citizens to better understand and manage flood risk. Through a web platform, E-NUNDATION offers dynamic and predictive flood mapping as well as an assessment of their impacts on the population, buildings and critical infrastructures. This webinar will focus on examples of how E-NUNDATION is used in real flooding contexts. The two modes of use offered by the tool, namely the preparatory mode and the crisis management mode, will be presented. Examples of past floods will also be presented to illustrate the level of accuracy of the mapping offered by E-NUNDATION.

E-NUNDATION is a decision support tool that allows crisis managers to better understand the risks and optimize their operations in both prevention and response, which helps reduce the costs associated with flooding. It is also a tool for raising public awareness, a key element for the resilience of our society, especially in the context of climate change.

New series of weekly CentrEau webinars "all about water management". These short 20-minute presentations will be offered live every Thursday at 1 p.m. followed by a short discussion period. CentrEau professors and researchers, as well as guest speakers, will present their research work and its importance in a semi-popularized manner. Watch the previous webinars on our YouTube Channel.
