Summary: Currently in Canada, there are millions of isolated dwellings, including residences, campgrounds, work camps, etc., that are located in isolated areas. It has recently been reported that more than 150 billion liters of wastewater from these dwellings are inadequately treated or untreated and therefore discharged annually into the natural environment [1]. 1] Similarly, water consumption patterns, and therefore wastewater flows and their daily distribution, may be different from those commonly observed in conventional residences.

On-site treatment can provide management flexibility and is an economically viable approach for sparsely populated and remote communities and agglomerations. The objective of this research project is to develop a non-polluting and efficient electrochemical ERG process for the on-site treatment and recycling of grey water from construction camps. Preliminary results have shown that the ERG technology has met the requirements of NSF-350 in terms of treatment and recycling of grey water from work camps. This reuse of treated greywater could reduce water demand by up to 30% of total domestic water consumption [2; 3].

New series of weekly CentrEau webinars "all about water management". These short 20-minute presentations will be offered live every Thursday at 1 p.m. followed by a short discussion period. CentrEau professors and researchers, as well as guest speakers, will present their research work and its importance in a semi-popularized manner. Watch the previous webinars on our YouTube Channel!
