A UN initiative to target nitrogen waste

United Nations member states meeting in Sri Lanka have endorsed a proposed roadmap to address the challenges of nitrogen, set out in the "Colombo Declaration on Sustainable Nitrogen Management". The declaration urges countries to carry out a comprehensive nitrogen cycle assessment that covers policy, implementation, regulation and science, and to educate citizens about an understanding of the natural nitrogen cycle and how human impacts change its balance. Our failure to use nitrogen efficiently is polluting water.

Colombo’s declaration aims to halve nitrogenous waste by 2030.
