The project in a few words:

• VIew the interactive map of SARS-CoV-2 surveillance in Quebec's wastewater »
• It is possible to see the presence and quantity of the virus circulating in the population on a given territory by sampling and analyzing wastewater.
• Studying waste water to keep track of COVID-19 cases, aired on CBC radio, April 1st, 2021 [with prof. Peter Vanrolleghem]
• This analysis gives us information on the evolution of the virus from 2 to 7 days before the individual tests.
• This wastewater monitoring system allows us to quickly see the effectiveness of new sanitary measures.
• This method is inexpensive, about 1% of the cost of individual sampling.
• The Quebec Research Funds (FRQ), the Trottier Family Foundation, the Molson Foundation, the Centre national en électrochimie et en technologies environnementales (CNETE), Thales, OClair Environnement, Nosotech and other partners are funding a six-month pilot project for $1.7 million.
• The objective is to set up a monitoring system in major urban centers and smaller municipalities in Quebec, namely Montreal, Quebec City and Laval, as well as the Lower St. Lawrence and Mauricie-Centre-du-Québec.
• The project's principal researchers are Dominic Frigon and Peter Vanrolleghem.
