INRS team wins the Mille Îles River AquaHacking Challenge

05 October 2021

O-Tech, composed of two members of Professor Patrick Drogui's research team at INRS-ETE, Alae Benguit and Yassine Ouarda, won first prize in the AquaHacking ideas competition, which this year focused on the quality of the ecosystems of the Mille Îles River. This prize comes with a $20,000 scholarship and mentoring for the start-up of their company.

O-Tech created O-Plast, an electrolytic system for degrading microplastics at their source. Since these emerging pollutants often come from synthetic fabrics during the washing of clothing, their technology is able to intercept and degrade the microplastics at the end of the wash cycle.
