A third blue community in Quebec

07 February 2019

Nicolet, a city in the Mauricie region, becomes the third city in Quebec to join the global blue community movement.

According to Radio-Canada, an announcement should be made in the coming days to formalize this news.

To be considered a blue community, a municipality must recognize three main guidelines:

  1. Recognize water as a human right;
  2. Promote publicly funded and operated water and wastewater services owned by the public sector;
  3. Prohibit the sale of bottled water in public facilities and at municipal events.

Thus, after the municipalities of Amqui and Danville, Nicolet would become the third city in Quebec to adopt these criteria to contribute to reasonable use, equal distribution and responsible treatment of water.
